If you're planning on bringing items into NZ (importing), or sending items overseas (exporting) that are worth over NZ$1000, you need to apply for a Customs Number.

Alternatively, you can contact a Customs broker to liaise with Customs on your behalf.

Step 1

If you're applying for yourself as a private individual please completeNZCS 224-A Customs Number Application Private Individual(PDF 818 KB).

If you're applying for a Customs Number so that you can import items for commercial purposes (to sell, to use in a business), please refer to theClient Code webpage.

Step 2

Email the completed form and a copy of your photo ID toclientcodes@customs.govt.nz

Step 3

You will receive your Customs Number by email.
